He took her not immediate laughing as a sign he'd gotten it right. So he glanced up at her, one eye blinking a bit sleepily. He squished Teydrin happily at the fact he was still alive. She was probably getting tired of that by now. "Guess I do pay more attention," he shrugged, not gloating at all.

Theo was trying to decide whether or not she wanted to glare at him. Slash throw him off the ledge. Or... whatever it was that she would normally to to beat the stuffing out of him. "That's... that's not fair!" she snapped. "I pay plenty of attention!"

Tracing Teydrin's cheek, also careful to keep his finger away from her mouth, he looked up at her fully. "Yeah? Then what is it that I want the most? Or even, tell me something postitive about myself. Then again, Theo, you didn't even know that I wasn't a morning person..." C'rin shrugged.

This was probably a good idea, because it is quite likely that Teydrin would have bitten him just for the heck of it. "Let's see... You're dedicated to your causes, you hate K'lee, there's someone you miss a lot, and what you really want- this will sound incredibly sappy, but I'm almost positive that it's true- is for someone to understand why you are the way you are." She glared at him. She hadn't listed good things so much as... things. Most was conjecture. Besides, Theo knew everything, didn't she? If she was challenged, she'd have perfectly good explanations for everything she said.

If C'rin was impressed - he was more...touched, really - he didn't show it. Just pressed his lips together before speaking. "However, no one I know of likes my causes, I'm pretty sure hating K'lee doesn't count as good (though it will be sharding hilarious to taunt him about the Flight later on), missing someone isn't good, and..." he trailed off, having to think about the last one. "And no. I already have someone who understands why I am the way I am." He hooked a thumb at the sleeping Darkness. "He knows more about me than I do. So no dice."

"Other than him. A human being." Theo's glare didn't falter, but her stomach twisted in embarassment. She hadn't wanted to say that, but it had been a challenge. "And, honestly, Mith isn't the best one to explain it to someone else." She could see that sometimes he was upset when she made wild accusations- which really weren't all that wild after all- about his unrepenting hate for everyone and everything. It only made sense that what she had said was true. But yes... it would be fun to taunt K'lee... Theo wasn't going to say that out loud, though.

It had been true, but he'd tried to bluff it off. Give him credit for a somewhat valid excuse as to why it wasn't true. C'rin glanced down, hugging the baby to him, but not suffocating her. "Fine. Yeah. I guess. Close enough," he pursed his lips. It had been the thing he wanted the most for a long time. Having it once, and then losing it had been hard. He'd searched so long for someone else. Anyone else. Not that he'd ever made it easy. But recently there had been something else he'd wanted, too. Something he had actually admitted to. Well, not really admitted...more like accused someone else of.

Theo smiled, smug. "I figured it out!" she declared, somewhat unnecessarially. "I told you I paid attention." She frowned then, realizing that they were probably just procrastinating handing Teydrin over. Meh. To stall for more time, and becuase she really was curious, she took a step toward him and looked up at his face. "Who is it that you miss?" she asked.

Her voice caused him to look up again, not really having expected that question. Not really wanting to answer it, either. "You took a wild guess," he amended her statement for her. And squished Teydrin, knowing that he was stalling. And answering her question would make the stalling longer. "She was...sort of like a grandmother. Or, if you want cliche, the mother I never really had. Why do you care?"

Theo frowned. That hurt more than it should have. Of course she cared. She- "...care about you," she mumbled, crossing her arms and looking away. The thing was that she had no idea that she had just said that out loud. She thought she was just making a face and looking the other way. Genius, Theo. Pure genius.

It was probably good that she'd looked the other way, because C'rin made a face and nearly dropped Teydrin. He held the baby to him again and looked at her, trying to sort through his thoughts. Or trying to come up with thoughts to sort. Really, he couldn't think of anything. Nothing. At all. He just had this sense of relief that she honestly didn't hate him, and a pressing urge to... To well, kiss her. And since he was sleepy, and we both know C'rin is loopy when drugged/tired, he did so, though kept it at a chaste kiss to her cheek. "I care about you, too," he said quite honestly. He'd actually wanted to say that for a while, and inhibitions were at a low this morning while he had their child in his arms.

The look on Theo's face went from obstinate oblivion, to confusion, to bewilderment, and then to horror. SHE HAD SAID THAT OUT LOUD?! . . . WHY DID THE WORLD HATE HER SO MUCH?! It wasn't fair! "That- ah- that- I- oh- that- er-" She was stammering, falling all over her own words and blushing furiously. Funny, she'd never blushed before. What was this, the first time? Certainly the first time she'd turned this shade of scarlet.

Her response didn't exactly match up with with what she'd said previously, and certainly didn't match up with the scene C'rin had pictured. If anything, he had started blushing from humiliation. He'd said that, and she obviously hadn't wanted to hear it. At least, that was how she was acting. And it made him feel terrible. Made him wonder how he could have been so stupid as to assume she actually cared. Just because she'd said it didn't mean she meant it. C'rin set Teydrin on the bed and stood. "Nevermind, Theo," he gritted, then walked past her, thoroughly shamed. "Just...forget I ever said it." He was in his section of the weyr after he said that, casting around for a shirt, forgetting what he'd done with his other.

"Don't make that face!" Theo wailed, trailing after him. Guessing what he was looking for, she picked up his shirt, glancing at the baby. Upon deciding that Teydrin, who was staring at the ceiling, wouldn't do any severe damage to herself for a few minutes, she followed C'rin. "I have your shirt." Considering that after that she continued on the emotional spiel, this sounded a bit strange. "Come on, C'rin, I just wasn't expecting that. I didn't even know I said that out loud! I do care about you, you sharding dimglow. If I didn't, I'd have kicked you out a long time ago!" Okay, not the best way of arguing her case, but it was what she had.

He wouldn't look at her for a moment, and when he did, his face was still a bit red. And he still felt mostly shamed for even daring to be honest. "What? Kick me out of the side room?" he snorted, arms crossing over his chest, not bothering to take the shirt. "Yeah, it takes a lot of caring to kick someone out of a room that you hardly use. Especially when you never see me in the mornings, rarely see me unless I make a report, and you ran off for three months! I didn't even get to be there when Teydrin was born!" He was feeling defensive again, and it was showing.
