Why are we here again? This place is boring. Baynath paced back and forth in the abandoned Hold, wishing he could be somewhere interesting.
"I just needed to come here. To work, I guess. I missed it," L'dros replied. He was busy repairing a forge that had belonged to the Hold's smith, a man L'dros had never met. It was not easy work, and he was quickly growing exhausted. But some part of him would not let him stop. He had to finish, so that he would have a little place of his own. He hadn't worked with metal for over a Turn, and he felt empty without it. Baynath helped fill that void, but still, there was only so much the Bone could do.
Fine, fine. Just hurry up! Your sharding flits are driving me crazy! Vanural, Damascus and Frood were all perched on Baynath's back, crooning affectionately and rubbing on the Bone. Apparently, they loved the feel of the dragon's hide, and couldn't get over it.

Theo had not been doing well lately. She was confused and grumpy and C'rin's scary new wish to glomp small children was not helping. Therefore, she had decided to go harrass someone. L'ros was a someone. "Whatchadoin'?" she said, suddenly appearing behind his shoulder, staring intently at the... whatever it was.

"Building a furnace..." he said a bit sheepishly. He didn't know how the Weyrwoman would react to that information. After all, she probably didn't appreciate him leaving the Weyr just to, in effect, go back to his old life. But he still had no intention to stop what he was doing, and continued to lay down firebrick.
Baynath glanced at the Weyrwoman without much interest. Hey Lykath! Yours has come to bother Leandrosmine. Where are you? I have to deal with these flits all by myself?!

Theo looked blank. "Furnace?" she said. "Like... those hot things that go.... whoooo?" The 'whooo' was accompanied by flailing of the hands.
Yes, Lykath replied, amused, and said no more, quite deliberately silent.

"No, not a heating furnace. A blast furnace, for separating metal ores. This used to be a forge." L'dros replied, motioning towards the previously abandoned tools. Anvil, hammer, tongs, water barrel, he'd have thought it was all very obvious. Then again, the Weyrwoman didn't seem to be all there... "Basically, you use the furnace to melt the metal. Then the different kinds separate, and you can get pure metals, like iron or copper."
Baynath beat his wings in a frantic effort to get rid of the flits. They poofed off between, only to reappear when he had finished, and this time, carrying fish to nibble on as snacks. They're leaving crumbs on my hide! Agh!

"Is Baynath really vain?" Theo asked, apparently out of nowhere. "He's so upset over crumbs... but whatever! Blast furnace? That sounds.... evilly fun. I don't like metal, though. Well, I don't like doing stuff about it. Metal's fine. Well, I don't know what I'm talking about. Ignore me. Sort of." Strange rambling.

L'dros laughed, brushing the bits of fish off the Bone's hide. "He thinks he has to be the best at everything. But how did you hear him? Did Lykath tell you?" he asked, a bit puzzled. He didn't know anyone else could hear Baynath.
I'm not vain! I just don't want to reek of fish. And Mine has a better sense of smell than I do; it would drive him crazy! Baynath said, trying to prove that he was not vain, and that he was, in fact, trying to be kind and benevolent to his rider.

"Oh. Like shininess?" When he asked, Theo grinned evilly. "HAD," she explained, chuckling maniacally and tapping her temple with a finger. "And, Baynathlove, it is not possible for Yours to have a better sense of smell than you do. He's only human."

Well with these flits numbing my nose with all their rotten fish and such, he'll be able to smell much better than I do, Baynath complained. Now shoo, flits! Shoo!
The flits flew off of the dragon sulkily, perching on Theo and L'dros instead. The rider stroked Vanural and Damascus, who had settled on his shoulders. Frood, on the other hand, had curled up on the Weyrwoman's head.

"Soooooooooooo cute!" Theo cooed, trying to look up at the flitt and going cross-eyed in the attempt. She clasped her hands together and wiggled happily a bit. Sooo cute! Nanny appeared from nowhere- well, between, but whatever- and Theo had to seize her in midair to keep her from attacking Frood, who had taken her usual place.

Frood hissed at the Hart in annoyance, but he got up and settled on Theo's shoulder instead. He outranked Nanny, but that meant little among lizards, aside from queens, and he wasn't about to mess with the angry female.
"You have a flit as well?" L'dros asked, looking at Nanny in surprised. He hadn't been aware that Theo had gotten one; he had been too busy trying to feed his three.

Nanny crooned, pleased with herself, and alighted on Theo's head with a good measure of glee. Then she began to preen, just to rub it in.
"Yep," Theo said, reaching up fondly to pat Nanny. "She's a goodie, yes she iisssss!"

Frood hissed at Nanny, sending wild images of rage to anyone in listening range. He'd let her have the spot; she didn't have to rub it in. Not that he'd do anything about it; he just wanted his sentiments known.
"Flits can be a handful," L'dros commented, chuckling. "Frood, calm down. Don't fight the poor Hart!"
