Today… the fourth weyrling lesson took place. They were more than half finished.
YES! B’aral wouldn’t have to deal with them ever again! Muahahahaha! Unless Slornth caught one of their dragons. Scary thought.
Anyways, back on topic.
After the disastrous talk from Theo –B’aral had later found out that it had been one of the drudges who had opened the cookie jar after much badgering from Theo. K’lee had been set on her, and after she’d died (not really) of stupidity from Calth- B’aral had decided that it wasn’t a good idea to have any more riders come and talk. Besides, all the riders
-or their dragon partners- were insane in some way that was sure to scare the Weyrlings.
“Hello!” He called when the little Weyrlings appeared. Aw, weren’t they squishy?
–B’aral inhaled to many of Baran’s concoction’s odors while trying to find him, so if he’s a little more loopy than normal…-
“And welcome to the fourth Weyrling lesson! Only two more to go after this! Isn’t that exciting?” He beamed around at all the others, as though expecting them to agree with a rousing cheer and then announce him king of jerky.
Yes. Loopy.
“Well, anyway! Today’s lesson is more for the riders, not the dragons, like the others have been.” B’aral noticed that almost all of the dragons had grown considerably. Those who had not had still grown quite a bit. They tended to do that, B’aral remembered.
“We’re going to be making your first harness, then fitting it to your dragon with space for it to grow, and then the pair of you are going to fly the same route your dragon did last time.”
He couldn’t wait to see the looks of horror on their faces. This was going to be great!
“So let’s get started! After that, of course, you will be doing the normal washing, oiling, routine, which you should have been doing every day now that your dragons are getting big! No splotchy hides, remember! Your dragon is now to big for you to have to feed them, isn't that a relief?” Smiling, B’aral pointed to where he’d set up the wherhide skins for them all to use. His smile was directed at Izzy, who he knew had hated killing.
It took him a little while to show them all how to make the harness and all the straps, but finally he was sure that they all had it, and he let them be. When they were all done, he took them up to the ledge, and showed them all how to strap the harness on, and then how to mount their dragons and strap themselves in and other riders as well.
“Okay! Off you go!”
