Mine, you are acting funny. Crunch. You should eat. Crack. Food makes everything better. Pause. Except for the food.
Raiden smiled against the cloth of her breeches. She was sitting on the hill overlooking the feeding grounds, hugging her legs to her chest with her forehead resting on her knees.
It's not always that simple for humans, love, she told Adath. We're very mopey creatures, I'm afraid. Don't worry about it. Just, ah, enjoy your meal.
Okay, said Adath, easily placated.
Raiden sighed, but didn't move. Everything was all messed up. She really liked Z'them, and Lilith's Flight had ruined everything. Nothing could be the same anymore.
Life officially sucked.

Food! Came Lilith's joyful exclamation as she appeared out of between, Z'them on her back.
She was hungry, and had insisted that Z'them come with her. And she also knew that Adath was eating right now too. All the more reason for her to eat.
As Z'them looked down at the ground, he saw Raiden watching her dragon. As he recognized who it was, his stomach gave an awkward little flutter. The Rain had failed to mention Adath and Raiden would be here. She had just told him she wanted to eat.
I will set you next to Raiden while I go eat. Lilith explained, missing Z'them's sudden urge to go back.
But... Ah... Err... He couldn't think of a reasonable protest.
Stop being silly. You know you want to. And you two are friends. She always made things into the simplest situation. Therefore, her reasoning was usually right, but lacked a few details such humans would find important.
And sure, Z'them had always liked being around Raiden, more then anyone else, he really did like her. But.... Things were just awkward now ever since that night. And Z'them hated it.
So, since Zthem had stopped trying to argue, Lilith set him down a few feet from Raiden and went to go join Adath on the feeding grounds to eat.
"Hey.." Was his brilliant greeting to Raiden, as he tried to be as casual as he could.

Silence. Then-
"GAH!" And Raiden went flying sideways as she registered that someone had just spoken to her and who it was. And then she fell off. The hill. Which is difficult, since it wasn't steep. But she fell off anyway, landed on her back, and rolled the rest of the way down.
Why her? It was always her. She scrambled to sit up, and realized a fraction of a second too late that her boot was missing. She realized this because it hit her in the face. She fell over backwards, a lovely new gash adorning her forehead from the thing's freaking heel. It had bounced off. Lovely.
"Oof."
Mine? Adath sounded bemused more than concerned.
I'm fine. But she didn't move. No use in it anyway, the damage was done and if she got up she'd probably just fall over again.

So much for casual. Why did it seem like she was always startled more then necessary when he greeted her. Oh well, such was fate.
"Ah!" Z'them responded, reaching out to try, in vain, to stop her from rolling down then hill. No luck there.
"Look out for the boo...!" Too late. Again. Then he noticed her forehead. "Are you alright?!" He called down, worried, as always.
He didn't wait for answer before heading down the hill himself. He had a bit more luck, until that is, his foot found a loose branch and he tumbled forward and rolled down in a similar manner. He skidded to a stop, landing on his butt. Looking bemused for a second, he shook his head to clear the sudden dizzy feeling and focused his eyes on Raiden who was sitting 10 feet away. Giving an amused sort of chuckle, he ran his fingers through his hair, noticing that it was messier than usual from the lovely roll for the hill. "You alright?"
He usually wasn't clumsy. Really. He just didn't have a lot of luck.
Lilith was laughing at him.

"'Course," Raiden muttered, still lying on her back staring at the sky, embarassed. Her forehead was bleeding, but what else was new?
Silence.
"Sorry," she added. Yes, Raiden was apologizing for bleeding.
More silence.
Awkward. Very, very awkward.

Yes, very awkward.
And silent.
And he had absolutely no idea why Raiden was apologizing. Then again, he always expected strage things from her. But that's what made things fun and interesting.
"Um, do you need a bandage or anything for your forehead?" Z'them asked, finding the need to say something in the awkward silence.

"Nope." More silence. Raiden couldn't think of anything to say, so she just started talking.
"So." Good start. What now? "Things have been sort of..." Sort of... what? "...weird." No duh, genius. "So..." What, again? Get to the point! "Can we just... ah..." Well? "...pretend that all of..." Crap, what word to use... "...that... never happened?"
That sounded good.
Pretend it didn't happen, and carry on as usual.
"Because I still want to be your friend."

Z'them listened as she rambled for a moment. When she was finished he thought about it for a second.
It certainly sounded better then their current situation. So, why not?
"Yeah. That's sounds good." He said, giving her a grin. "Because I still want to be your friend too, I don't ever want to stop being your friend."
Yes, pretend it never happened and carry on as usual sounding like a good plan to him.

"Good," Raiden said, relieved. That sounded a lot better than what had been going on. She relaxed. "How have you been?" she asked, still ignoring the fact that her face was bleeding into her eye. Great, Raiden. Great.
Mine, are you insane?
No.
Oh. Good.

Z'them really didn't like the way her head was bleeding, but, considering they had just become friends again and he didn't want to ask again and therefore annoy her, he decided to leave it. It didn't look too bad.
"I've been alright. Nothing to exciting or anything lately. How about you?" He asked, also feeling relieved they could now speak without the awkwardness.

Raiden shrugged. "Nothing much," she said. She turned to check on Adath, who was now fastiduously cleaning himself, like a feline. She smiled. He was soooooooo cute. She just loved her Addie. He finished as she watched and swooped over to land beside them, making the ground shake. He was massive. He looked at them for a moment, and then flopped over on his side to roll around in the dirt (the ground shook again).
"Why, hello."
Adath blinked all of his lids.
Hello.

Lilith was still eating, boy she could eat a lot (but never seemed to get any less thin), but paused to watch Adath amusedly.
Steadying himself from the shaking of the ground, Z'them chuckled as he watched Adath as well. He really was massive. And still the largest dragon in the weyr. "Yes, hello, Adath."

Silence.
Well, I'm bored.
"Congratulations."
It's quiet. I'm bored.
"Is it just me, or are you acting like a hatchling?"
Mine! You are mean!
"Am not."
Are too!
"Am not. See, ask Z'them." Both turned to stare at Z'them. "Z'them, am I mean?" Raiden demanded.

A slight look of shock crossed Z'them's face at that moment as both dragon and rider turned to stare at him expectantly.
Why was he suddenly singled out?
Answer the question. Came the prompt.
Thanks for the advice. Came the sarcastic response.
"No, I don't think Raiden is mean at all." He said, backing it up by shaking his head back and forth.
He looked much like a small child being accused of something he didn't do.

Bellow the squabbling pair and dragons, a figure plodded on. It was tiny and hunched, covered in nothing more than clean, but incredibly worn, scraps of cloth. It stopped a little way beyond Raiden and Z'them, and then turned its head to look up at them, and there was a flash of grayish-blue eyes before it continued on, now appearing to hum. When it was almost out of sight, the figure turned in a full circle, bowed to something only it could see, and then disappeared around the side of the hill, out of sight, out of mind.
