Name// Aine
Age// 14
Appearance// Aine is 5'5" tall and still growing. She's fairly muscular in her upper arms, though she's a generally slender-average girl. Her hair is dark black, falling to mid back and usually worn in a loose braid or a tail. She's practical and she likes keeping her hair out of her face. Her eyes are an unusual blue-green, somewhere between both shades so that it's hard to tell what color they are. Her skin is very pale not only from natural tone but because of the fact that she hardly ever leaves the Weyr, and would burn if she stayed outside for very long. Her expression is usually anxious or confused because she's deaf and mute because of that, and hates not being able to understand.
Personality// Aine is a very focused girl, when she has a task that she understands. She's literate, having learned to read and write through the efforts of a very patient harper, but only barely. She's not very good with big crowds of people and avoids them like the plague. Aine has learned to read lips but in big crowds of people she can never concentrate enough on one person. She seems impolite to people who don't know her because she can't speak or, when she tries, winds up saying things wrong or just making odd sounds that frighten people who don't know that she's deaf. She's incredibly unselfish when she knows people to the extent that she's willing to harm herself for them, and a good hearted girl. She hates the way that she dresses, but there's little that Aine is willing to do about it since she can't convey her desire for new garments to others. She loves the Weyr, and is extremely defensive of it, but makes her home in it's kitchens in order to avoid as many people as possible. Aine is a fairly mature girl, but her main goal is to learn how to speak. She can 'listen' effectively enough if people speak slowly so that she can read lips, but she has yet to find any way to communicate beyond nodding or occasionally writing things down. She's extremely shy, especially around males of any age. In fact, she's downright afraid of them to a crippling extent. Her base kindness makes her appealing if you can persevere in an aquaintance with the skittesh girl, especially through her frustration with herself if she can't convey something. She's more likely to get angry with herself than other people when she's trying to communicate, and is interesting to say the least because of her disability. If she doesn't realize she's being adressed, she tends to offend people who don't realize she can't hear. Aine's, in comparison to other people, impolite, though she does her best.
History// Aine's parents were two riders in a weyr prior to the massacre. She's the third out of six of her mother's children, by varying other riders. Like most Weyrbrats, she was Fostered after her birth, but unlike most Weyrbrats, Aine was born deaf. This was not realized for quite some time, as she came into the world yelling as lustily as any other baby. When other children tried to speak to her, or adults cooed down at her, she wouldn't respond. She'd watch them with interest, and occasionally even smile when they made faces, but sounds didn't affect her. When she did try to communicate, she would be extremely loud. As she grew up, she would play quietly by herself, away from the other children who didn't understand what was wrong with her or, if they did, thought she was strange. As she grew older, nearing her teen years, Aine started to look after her little half-siblings, who didn't care that she couldn't hear them.
Being extremely stubborn, she managed to learn to read and write through the efforts of an equally stubborn Harper. She hated sitting around doing nothing, so she was taught how to cook through demonstration rather than instruction. All of these are part of Aine's major goal to be a more active part of weyr life but due to her uncomfortableness in large groups of people, she continues to hide away from people. She still stayed with her Foster mother in the lower caverns, and looked after her littlest brother, Irich and whichever little weyrbrats happened to need watching. After the slaughter, which she managed to avoid due to being hurried and hidden away, she remained in the Weyr.
Companions// None
Dragon// Autumn Dynaleath
Rule Remark: if you can't tell what this is you're an idiot- is oh, the shininess--think fast
OoC// Modifying Aine's history to fit this Weyr was difficult, so please let me know if she doesn't quite work. I know characters like her are not very convenient as Candidates (what good would she be fighting Thread?) but I'd love for her to be able to be one if possible. The history edits aren't quite done.
