Name:
Ar'lyr (Ariskelyr)
Age:
15
16
Appearance:
Ariskelyr has had the great misfortune to have spent not quite enough time outside. His skin has just enough color to justify his being alive, and not enough to show his long-gone habit of living outside. Because he has spent more time inside, his hair has returned to its natural color, that of honey oak, but a hint of blond mingles through his hair stubbornly. He wears it longer than he's been used to, letting it dangle in his eyes and forever finds himself swiping at it. However, he has found a trick to keeping it out of his eyes, which is to wear it swept to one side. This opens his face to inquiring eyes, showing pale green eyes that might as well be mistaken for gray. But they are green nonetheless. His cheekbones are just high enough to create the illusion of a noble bearing, but the grin usually found on his lips offsets any idea of that. He is a bit too tall for his own tastes, standing at 5'10. His proportions are normal, though if you asked him, he could confide that he thought his torso was a little short for his liking.
Personality:
Ari is a fairly passive male, opting for a type of sophisticated friendliness rather than causing a scene. Rarely if given the option will he do anything abrasive, unless it's to stand up for himself when someone goes too far. And too far in his books is a long way. As a passive person, he is easily persuaded to do most anything. All it takes is several whispered words, or a pleading look and he'll cave in. People have tried to use him to argue a point, but they've soon found out he's not suited for that. The moment the other person presented their case, he wavered in uncertainty as to which side he wanted to take.
He's fairly arrogant when it comes to himself, though he passes it off as mock-arrogance. Because it is his youthful, girlish looks and assumed air of simplicity that gets him his admirers, he tries to downplay the less appealing aspects of his personality, like arrogance and vainity. He enjoys being useful, up to the point when he gets tired.
When meeting someone, especially if he has heard about him or her, Ari tends to be too aloof for his own good. He is a dreamer at heart, and has the gift of elaboration. He takes things out of context, mainly because when he hears something, it is instantly transported into his world, where meanings tend to shift around. This has gotten him into trouble mostly, but there have been the few occasions that he has correctly interpreted something. His expectations are always too high, and is forever disappointed by everything. The only reason he has refused to change his outlook is that he is positive one day he will find something that does live up to his ideals. He is quick to fall in love, and slow to mend his ever-broken heart. To counter his eternal disappointment and heartbreak, he has taken on an aloofness that extends to all, though it never lasts very long. He does try, though.
History:
Ari had a fairly normal childhood, as far as normal goes in the Weyr. He was an angel child, the kind that creche women fight over to take care of. So since a young age, Ari has been the item of desire. His mother was a drudge, and so was unable to keep him while she tended to her duties. His father was a rider, now dead, who was too busy to care for him. He never knew his family, and in retrospect, this made him the helpless romantic he is, as well as creating a disregard for families in general. When he hit puberty, he grew into his body quickly, and had the eyes and attention of his peers. He grew used to this, and has since not wanted that to change. Ari wasn't exactly promiscuous, but he was easily drawn to bed by whispered words of love. The boy has never actually been loved by a peer, and so has a history of doing anything for the person who says he or she loves him. Nothing stands out in his history to haunt him, nor nothing to make him smile. He hasn't really lived yet, simply coasting by on the wills of others.
Companions:
Winter Poikil, or just Poi
Poikilothermic animals, for example insects, snails and worms, are dormant during the winter because they can’t adjust their body temperature to the snow.
Poi is fat. Not cuddly, not chubby, just very rotund. He despises exercise, and complains very loudly if forced to. He prefers to curl up in the warm places of the Weyr, undisturbed by the going-ons around him. His coloring is typical to a Winter: white, with watery-blue patches on his tail and rump.
Rule Remark: (only needed for first character)
Name: Hart Breath
Appearance: Breath is built on the typical light frame of a Hart, longlegged and shortnecked. He is dun brown, flecked with cream and white, with a white underbelly and cream socks. At full growth, he reaches 43 feet long, large for his color.
Personality: Breath is, in the grand tradition of Harts, extremely shy and easily frightened. He desperately needs love and attention, but also has a playful side. He loves rolling in dirt, sand, and grass. This is his favorite activity. He shares with his brother Beneath a love of butterflies, and also enjoys chasing them greatly. If he ever caught one, though, he would be incredibly depressed.
