Aw, he'd made her mad. Whoops. "Aw," he said, slipping. And it wasn't an 'Aw gosh darnit' it was an 'Aw how cute.'
C'rin pocketed his hand again and shrugged. "If the disease is as bad as everyone makes it out to be, it'll get to the Weyr soon enough. It's not like there's many of us left anyway." He wasn't trying to justify his going back, because he honestly didn't care what happened to the Weyr. He just cared what happened to himself and Theo. What a great Weyrleader. L'tarel really would be better.
Really? Mith flicked his tail happily, liking how Lykath made him feel smart. C'rin never did that. C'rin never made anyone feel smart, unless it was by comparison. Minnie it is! Minnie went to sleep.

"What the- you- you- you-" She got stuck on the word, stammering it out over and over like a broken record. Her incoherency was somewhat understandable, considering he had just announced that he didn't care if he was the cause of several scores of deaths, because they were all going to die anyway and it wasn't that many people.
She couldn't think of a word descriptive enough to come after 'you.' As she stammered and gesticulated helplessly, she considered for a moment the possibility of making her feelings known by slapping him, but she was still on the no-touching-in-case-I-kill-him rule, so that was out of the question.
Dang. That had been an attractive thought, too.
Really, Lykath assured him. It wasn't quite a lie. He was clever for him. Which totally made sense. It is a very good name. And now it was draggie cuddle time! =D

"Yes?" he drawled the word out, smirking at her. Again, he didn't really care about those deaths. And the thought of spending the rest of his life with those people was sickening. He'd much rather have two or three months with Theo.
How sweet, C'rin. He does have a heart somewhere.
Cuddle time! Yay! Mith would much rather spend a short life with Theo than live without her. At least the Darkness admitted that he liked her.

"You.... you," Theo finished lamely, pouting. She could never win with him, largely because her vocabulary lacked words foul enough for the situations he introduced. "Meh," she added, and plopped down to sit on the floor and pout. She had just given up. "If you want to die, I guess that's your choice," she grumbled. "But I'm not lettin' you go back now." Can dirt catch fire? The bit she was glaring at seemed to be smoking ominously. It wasn't, of course, because that was impossible. But it seemed to be.
(Ours are funny,) Lykath confided to Mith in the sickeningly sweet, cutesie voice he had all to himself. She certainly didn't use the tone with anyone else. Especially not Theo. Faranth no, not Theo.

C'rin nodded once in victory and left his guard post by the door. Now that she had given up, there was no need to try to prevent her from running off. Unless this was just a ploy to get him to move away from the door so she could, in fact, make her escape. But sometimes C'rin was as simple-minded as his dragon. He sat besides her and leaned into her slightly, just enough so that their shoulders touched. His minor panic attack back in the Weyrbowl had rattled a few things around in his head and made him realize that on some level, she was important to him. He'd been honestly terrified when he'd seen her touch Baran and imagined her looking like that. "And how are you going to keep me from going back?"
(Really? I thought Mine was more silly than funny...though those are the same things...right?) He enjoyed that voice she used with him, and cuddled into her happily, displacing Minnie in the process. The little Mist chirped unhappily and shifted onto Lykath to curl up on her instead.

"I'll beat the stuffing out of you," Theo muttered, leaning back automatically. She considered the option of making a break for it, but at this point it was probably too late anyway. Besides, she found (to her horror) that she really did feel better for the thought that he wanted to stay with her. Why was a problem, but who knew with him? Maybe just because he knew he shouldn't.
(Pretty much the same. They are amusing to taunt, in any case.) The Mist glanced at Minnie, snorted, and then left her well enough alone.
Newsflash: Nanny was currently being squished by Teydrin, who had noticed the flitt hovering and decided that here at last was the proper squishy toy to... squish. And so she had. Nanny had never been near the illness, so Bel wasn't concerned about the baby getting a hold of the flitt. Even if it was a chokehold.

He frowned slightly when she leaned back, but let her do so, clasping his hands in his lap for a moment before finding the position uncomfortable. He ended up just slouching, fingers of one hand tapping against the floor. "So you'd break my legs just so I couldn't get on Mith and go back to the Weyr?" he mused aloud, then leaned in again, though didn't touch her this time. "But tell me, Theo. How are you going to eat?"
(Taunting them in fun, yes! And making them do things they don't want to. That's fun, too. Minnie snorted back at Lykath, if only to mimic her.
Poor Nanny. D:

Theo raised her eyebrows. "C'rin, my dear, I am perfectly capable of feeding myself without a trader to hand things to me." How else would she have survived after running? (Or before being married, come to think of it.) "Though I might break your arms, too, just for fun," she added thoughtfully. After a moment, she put in, "Just kidding." Probably.
(It is indeed.) Your minion has snorted at me. Lykath staaaaaaaared at the little thing.

C'rin sighed and tipped backwards onto the floor, lying down and staring at the celing. As it was perhaps the most uninteresting thing to look at, he let his gaze drift back to Theo. He wasn't entirely sure she meant the kidding part, but decided he could always...well, he couldn't run. She was faster than him, and he just...couldn't run. It would be disgraceful and she'd make fun of him later for it. "Why not just amputate all my limbs? I'm sure you'd enjoy it more."
I think she just likes you, Mith grumbled, jealous. She was supposed to be his minion! Minnie stared back, giving something of a squeak to let the biggest Mist know that she wasn't going to back down. The game was on!

Theo stared sideways and down at him, face scrunched up and one eyebrow raised in skepticism. "Because then you'd be useless?" Duh. "Why on Pern would I want a useless Weyrleader? If someone else Catches Lykath next time- assuming I live long enough for there to be a next time- then maybe. But not while you have a job to do." She frowned. "Or, at least, not while you have a job that you should be doing but seem to have abandoned in order to die, as Lykath put it, of a sick."
Lykath snorted again, amused by the show of defiance from a flitt who wouldn't even make half of a decent almost-bite of a snack after gorging herself. It is probably vanity, she informed her mate haughtily. She likes me because she is the same color as I am.

He sent the same look back at her for a brief moment, and then let his face relax into a slight laugh. "Useful? All I do is fly around and make sure the land around the Weyr is fine. But I can't really do that anymore as the entire Weyr is under lock down. If I went back I'd just make rounds and write down the names of who died that day. I'd really rather not," he sighed and flicked his fingers at her. "And besides, I've been around you, and you were around the 'sick'" he used the phrase Lykath used. "So should I really be doing my job? Shouldn't I just stay away from people?"
As long as it is only that... he sounded like he was sulking. Minnie hopped down to sit between Lykath's claws and peer up at her.

"That is why I refined my statement," Theo asserted primly, her nose in the air. After a moment of posturing, she flashed him a glare and smacked the back of his head. This was a feat since he was lying down. She managed. "And no one is going to die there. They're all going to be fine, because no one else got near it. Except you, you idiot."
I am sure it is. Besides, you are my favorite. If it was a stare-off the flitt wanted, it was a stare-off the flitt would get.

C'rin would have wondered how she'd gotten to the back of his head, but was more concerned with the fact that it hurt. He propped himself on an elbow and rubbed at the back of his head with a frown. "Well, what're we going to do, then?" He really hadn't thought about it.
I am? Mith was done sulking, immediately shifting into his usual glee. You are my favorite, too! Minnie balanced on her back claws, wings flared out to balance her, glaring at the bigger Mist.

"You figure it out! This is your fault. Why did you feel the need to come here, again?" In fact, she hadn't asked him in the first place. She had been more concerned with screaming at him to go away. Now that that was out the window, it was only logical to ask why he'd dome something so incredibly stupid in the first place. "Oh, don't tell me- you're being depressed and suicidal again? There are much cooler ways to die, dear."
Of course you are. Er... does Minnie realize that I could easily devour or squish her if she gets on my nerves too much? The little creature was really very aggressive.

He sputtered at her and crossed his arms, tipping onto his back again from the lack of support. "Because," he muttered, not feeling entirely comfortable with revealing his reasons. But hearing her call him 'dear' was enough to make him sit up again and stare at her, more serious than he had been in a while. "Because I didn't want to lose you like that. Having you just disappear, knowing that in a month or so you'd be suffering...I just..." he trailed off and shrugged. "I wanted to see you."
I do not think she does. Minnie chirriped at her, not realizing it, no.
